Why the Hero is Victorious © MC 2022
In Mythology and the Modern Superhero (Polytheism) genre, the Hero is always victorious over Evil or the criminal element. The Hero represents ORDER and the Villain represents CHAOS.
Order is the organized society of the Human population. It is the structure of the Universe. Everything works in an Orderly Society. There are no socio-economic problems, hunger or famine, crime is low or non-existent, and the people are happy.
Chaos is an upheaval of society. Crime is rampant, people murder and steal without being arrested, destruction and bad weather exist, there are Wars and Pestilence, and people are unruly.
Whenever Chaos threatens Order you have vast changes in the social order of the world. This is found today in Politics with the Republican Party threatening Democracy and Order with bad legislation and conspiracies or perceived election fraud, Russian Propaganda that denies Reality, rampant “smash and grab” thefts and Racially motivated Riots with destruction of Statuary, homicide sprees, vehicle thefts or vandalism, etc.
In Ancient Egypt the Pharaoh (an incarnation of the God Horus) was the Hero, fighting the forces of Chaos to reestablish Order. His survival was the maintenance of Order over Chaos. This is shown on statuary and stele with the god Horus standing on a crocodile (Chaos) while attacking the negative forces of Chaos. In other depictions, Horus is spearing Seth the god of Chaos. In later religions this iconography shows Archangel Michael spearing the Dragon (Chaos) or Satan, the King of Hell. In Egyptian representation the forces of Chaos are drawn smaller than the Hero, or the Hero is drawn much larger than everyone else. By doing so the evil of Chaos is lessened. So the Pharaoh must be victorious over his enemies or Chaos replaces Order. Usually Order replaces Chaos.
