California Proposition 50, also known as the Election Rigging Response Act[2], is a constitutional amendment that will appear on the special election ballot in the U.S. state of California on November 4, 2025. The special election was put on the ballot by the California State Legislature and California Governor Gavin Newsom in response to the 2025 Texas redistricting. If passed, it will allow the state to use a new, legislature-drawn congressional district map for the 2026, 2028, and 2030 elections instead of the one drawn by the California Citizens Redistricting Commission.

These maps expire in 2030. Prop 50 preserves California’s award-winning redistricting reforms and reaffirms the California Citizens Redistricting Commission’s authority to draw congressional districts after the next census.
A YES vote on this measure means: The state would use new, legislatively drawn congressional district maps starting in 2026. California’s new maps would be used until the California Citizens Redistricting Commission draws new maps following the 2030 U.S. Census.
MC 2025.
Of course this applies to Democrats mostly. Should Democrats elect someone worse than the Republican choices, we will be stuck with them until 2030.
