Build Canals on Niihau Island

  Niihau is a dry, desert island with a Natural "Lake" and no waterfalls or water sources unlike neighbor Kauai, which is the "2nd Wettest place on Earth."  

  During Hurricanes is the source of drinkable water.  Mostly houses with rain catchment can trap water for drinking.  If you build a system of Canals (and bridges over them) you can collect more water during rare Storms.  Build them deep with concrete base and covers to prevent evaporation.  Storm drains will clear sanitation.  Canals can extend for several miles on Niihau, and used with small boats for transportation (as in Ancient Egypt).  This will extend water sources and enable residents to live there, and possible irrigation for farming or greenhouses.
