The Author of a book does not receive the full price of the book. If a book costs $20, the Author receives a percentage of that amount, not $20. This percentage varies. A $20 Book is priced according to number of pages, if it is color or black and white, size, or paperback/hardcover/electronic book. The price may also be connected to other services like marketing or editing. The Author may earn what is called “Royalties” or proceeds, which may be $1 to $3 on average per book. So an Author has to sell many copies in order to earn an income. 10 Books sold at $10 each (with 10% Royalties; or $1 per book) is $10 in income. On top of that the Author has to pay Taxes if over the threshold of $399 per year. The remainder of the price pays the Printer and Distribution Network, in this case Amazon.com. Only a Best-selling Author who makes $100,000 per month [or 100k+ books] has a livable income (in USA); and $100,000 in California is considered Middle Class.
If however you know that people are selling my first novel illegally at $100,000 each, which is protected by Copyright (1995), then you may want to know if the Author is profiting from it? No. No one in the USA Govt. paid the Author anything for that book since CIA classified it top secret. And they did so with false advertising. CIA told USA Media to advertise the book in 1990s-2000s. The contents of that book were marketed so the corrupt USA Govt. could profit from it. The Author was never paid as yet the $990Billion+ USD allegedly earned from the illegal sales of Eye of the Pharaoh ©1990-1995 MJC that the FBI / DOJ was collecting for future usage. Criminals pay taxes, and those taxes came from the book (as to where this Surplus Revenue came from). If they are forced to pay the Author, the Govt. would lose that Surplus Revenue. So this is why the Author is not super-rich as according to people who know. The book is protected by Copyright therefore all proceeds including price of book legally goes to the living Author, Mike J. Costa/M7, as this is Stolen Intellectual Property.
